Long Legs Larry

DETAILED GAME INSTRUCTIONS (They're in the game themselves, but if you're lost and confused, check here!)

Long Legs Larry follows the story of a middle aged man Larry and his journey to the top of a cliff. Your stelts cannot extend very far, so you must harvest the magical Stelt Tree to magically extend them many meters! Buy buildings in the shop, collect resources, and use your built buildings to craft healing soup, stronger ammo or support turrets. 

MOVEMENT:

use WASD to move.  But dont move into the spikes, those hurt

MINING/HARVESTING

Move close to a patch of gold, iron, berries, or a Steltree and then use E to harvest it. 

SHOOTING PEBBLES

Aim with your mouse cursor and use the left mouse button to shoot a pebble. How does Larry do this, you ask? where do these rocks come from? Larry is just so strong he punches his hand into the wall of the cliff and scoops out a rock as if it was snow.

Larry can also craft iron ammo at the refinery. these deal twice the damage of a pebble and can be thrown with right click. 

BUILDING

In the bottom right corner are 5 icons for your 5 buildings, which you buy in the shop. Left click on one of these icons to build it. Use your mouse to drag it to the location you want. Change your mind? Right click returns the building to your inventory.

Once a building is placed, it cannot be picked up again, so build wisely!

FUNCTIONS OF BUILDINGS

Refinery: The gears from this machine turn iron into stronger ammo.

Cauldron: If you have 2 berries, you can make a delicious soup to grant yourself an extra life!

Turret: Expensive, but can fight for you. Automatically shoots arrows by itself.

Fertilizer: Place this on Cliff Berries after you harvest them so next run youll get 2 berries! the effects do not stack multiple times, so dont waste 2 fertilizers on one berry bush.

Drill: Place this on an iron or gold vein after you mine them to get more iron or gold on the next harvest of the ore! Like with the berries, only 1 drill can be placed. multiple drills dont have any effect.

GOLD

Gold is earned by mining it for 5 gold (10 with a drill) or killing bats for 1 gold or snakes for 2. You lose your berries, iron, and iron pebbles after you die, but not your gold!

This game was made in 96 hours for the 2024 GameMakers ToolKit game jam. I've participated in 2 jams before but was far too ambitious and didnt finish my projects in time, abandoning 2 buggy, unfinished messes. Due to the time contraints I unfortunately found no time to implement any animations or sound effects, however, I hope you have fun anyways with my game! My friends assured me that it was really fun to play. I hope they aren't lying.
